"The Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival" is a cultural program of "The Friends of Conroe, Inc." established in 1990. The festival serves the community by promoting fellowship within the Conroe area, provides venues for young performers, and enriches the lives of all it's residents.  Through activities, displays, and statewide musical entertainment, the festival spotlights the downtown area of the city of Conroe. It exposes the general public to professional family entertainment and activities while promoting cultural tourism and enhancing economic growth in the surrounding business community.  Funds raised are used for youth scholarship programs, support of other local nonprofit community organizations, and contributions to the arts & culture of the community.

The festival is a marketing vehicle for local business and corporate sponsors.

Some local music lovers in Conroe, Texas began the Sounds of Texas Music Series in 1997 after they had spent an evening attempting unsuccessfully to listen to one of their favorite singer-songwriters in a noisy local club. The series began as a single show featuring Guy Clark in the acoustically perfect historic Crighton Theatre. Over nineteen years later, they are still producing one of the best music series in the state of Texas by offering patrons a chance to hear a wide variety of new, undiscovered artists as well as seasoned veteran performers in a listening room environment.
